Sulli’s Trip to the Pumpkin Patch

21 10 2009

One of my newborn clients is now already at her three month mark!! It goes by so fast, right?  To celebrate, I met her and momma at the Glynlea Grace United Methodist Pumpkin Patch. The little cutie was a super model except when it came time to show off her lil’ lamb costume. And as is tradition, I couldn’t resist snapping a pic of that moment too. Needless to say, her visit wore her out. By the end, Sulli was happy to take a snooze right in the thick of all those pumpkins! Can’t wait until her next go ’round!

Images for a Cure Pumpkin Event

12 10 2009

Sunday October 11, 2009 was the first annual (that’s right-Kristen at IFAC has informed us that The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has okayed it for a yearly event!) Images for a Cure Day.  The BIGGER news? We surpassed out goal of $5,000 in donations from our session fees and actually more than doubled it!

I am so honored that I was a part of this idea. I took my event out to the pumpkin patches where I love to be this time of year anyway. I also had the honor of meeting Heather from In Motion Video Productions, who not only interviewed me but got to follow me around capturing what is sure to be some crazy goofiness that is required to photograph kids!  In Motion is providing proof of what we photographers are willing to do for our jobs and do for a fabulous cause. Look out for the result when it is posted on Images For a Cure’s website in the future.

It ended up being a beautiful day if not a bit warm but overall I am thrilled the rain held off.  I had as my assistant for the day a young (but well seasoned to the industry) lady who also happens to be my cousin, Holly. She was sweet enough to volunteer her time holding reflectors and kids attention and evnetually stepped in front of the camera too!

My clients for the day were both new and  returning ones.  Some I remember shooting the first day of their lives, when I met them in the recovery room! Fabulous feeling to watch my subjects grow up!  Another little guy was the very age (3) his daddy was when I met him! Thanks to all those who came out and helped with a very special cause!  And thanks to Lakeshore United Methodist Youth Group for allowing me to use their pumpkin patch!! They were so kind to do what they did.

On a side note, the day reached a very fitting close when the last volunteer at the patch asked what the event was for. When I explained our goal, she thanked me and informed me she was a survivor. She was thrilled to see what we were doing! So everyone out there that participated or wants to next year…Our actions are not going by unnoticed! We really can help find a way to end this disease!!

And now, a little (ok- big) peek at some of the results to my first IFAC event…

September ShootOut with Jax Shoot Club. CRAZY!!!

Last night was the Jax Shoot Club’s monthly meetup and it was crazy! (in a fantastically chaotic way-what else should you expect with 80 photogs on Hershel’s strip?) I had a great time working with great models in great light and beautiful weather. It was a snappers dream – shooting at sunset on what sure felt like the first day of Fall.
I met some great people and learned some cool stuff to boot! Next investment is a pocket wizard for this girl and a shootsac for projects like these… Christmas is coming right?!
Here is a handful that I had to work on today-it took all I had not to do all this last night.

Vintage Emily and the bugs…

22 09 2009

Emily is an awesome girl who modeled for me in a pinch. What a trooper!! Don’t let the grace and poise she portrays fool you. It was hot and buggy out! She made some beautiful images that were exactly what I wanted. And I loved her look. She was made to be in these shots. She really embodied what the models back in the day had- beauty and curves.  Throw in the natural settings and the fabrics- successful shoot. (not counting the bug bites!)

Maternity meets Rock&Roll Glamour

15 08 2009

I met a kindred style soul today. Not really “met” as I had shot her before but- only in the office type environment. So how awesome to walk in to her home and immediately see a gazillion ideas for backdrops for her maternity  portraits. Not to mention as we compared notes, she was willing to go for just about anything we could come up with.  Only the weather stopped it from being a crazy free for all- haha. Between what I brought for draping and her rockin’ furniture and house, we created what I have been dying to do with a maternity subject- just a little off the beaten path, glammed out rock&roll.  One more way to show that a mother-to-be can still be one hot momma! Thanks Deanna for a fab time and I can’t wait to put the rest of our ideas to work with the little one of yours!

(on a side note- I knew we would hit it off when I walked into the nursery and read “Sogni D’oro” stenciled on the wall! One of the favorite phrases my Italian cousin has taught me and there it was! Of Course this was going to be AWESOME!!)

Sogni D’oro Ya’ll!

How Gorgeous does this mom2b look? Sweet aside: the shot on the left includes a necklace of her hubby's grandmother and their baby is being blessed with her name too! How cool!

She had the best places to pick from to shoot! I love how glam yet introspective this turned out.

I feel the cover model action on the left! It was raining on the right and she still rocked it!
