One HUGE way to kick off Whitson Blackwell Photo offering Weddings!!! You don’t want to miss THIS!!!
27 11 2010Wedding Coverage Comes to Whit Blac Photo!!
After waiting for years to come back and officially offer weddings, I am using a different approach than some photogs when I offer coverage.
Honestly, I shoot to please my clients and cover your whole day so I took some guidance from a fellow photog in London who only offers one package of full coverage. That way you do not have to worry about running out of time to get every moment covered. It also includes an engagement session before hand. A la carte items would be your albums, wall canvases and dress sessions if u need them.
A “full day” is 8hrs, which can begin with every part of your preceremony. I always have a second shooter to cover the groom too. My wedding coverage is $2500. If more time was needed it is $200 more an hour. Destination weddings vary a bit to include travel.
I am also going to be adding a wedding photography registry to my site for guests to choose if they like. I know quite a few couples already have established households and this is a great alternative to china you don’t use or multiple blenders
I am now booking for 2011 so if you are ready or have questions, it would be great to meet new bride and grooms!
Can’t wait to capture all the amazing weddings coming up!!
So EXCITED about the fact that Whitson Blackwell Photography is officially offering Wedding Coverage and to celebrate, I want to reward one lucky couple a full day of coverage for free!
So anyway about the giveaway!
The winner will receive my “full coverage”, a free engagement shoot and a disc of their processed files with rights to print.
and just added— The winning bride will also receive free hair & makeup for both her e-session and the Big day by The Makeup Artist Faythe Mesic. (one more thing you won’t have to worry about ladies- see $$ for special wedding things below
If you are still looking for a great photog or know others who are, simply submit a pic of you and your other half to me through my personal page, post it on my fanpage wall http://www.facebook.com/pages/Whitson-Blackwell-Photography/31850339825 or email (whitblacphoto@gmail.com) by the end of the year along with a brief story about the two of you!
Starting at the end of the first week of January, I will be posting all the lucky couples on my fanpage. Then it all comes down to getting your fans and loved ones to win you that coverage!
All they do is “like” Whitson Blackwell Photography and then “like” your personal picture.
Also as a huge thank you, all couples who participate will also recieve $500 off my wedding coverage if they don’t win the full day but still book with me. More discounts will be available for booked referrals as well ![]()
Faythe will also be rewarding all entries with a $65 gift card for her services to boot!
That way you have the oppurtunity to free up more $$ in your budget for other special things- in case you wanted to splurge on an extra special dress or location!
Thanks again for getting me pumped about doing this by being such awesome and beautiful people with great weddings to celebrate!

PhotoFusion, you ask? All together now… “HOLY Schnikees, photo fashionistas!”
8 04 2010Getting right to the point here, Kristen Weaver, a photog I truly adore and respect in the industry is having the ULTIMATE. Yeah, nothing after- just THE Ultimate. As in Chance, Experience, Fun. Lets put it this way- I, the queen of procrastination, am actually posting this info 2 WHOLE days before the deadline. That is how excited I am and how bad I wanna do this! I had the pleasure of corresponding with this amazing chick through her Images for a Cure event and then stumbled across her other work and thought, “Is this even legal to be this loyal to a cause AND churn out such fabulous fashion imagery?!”
Needless to say, I want and (for my own sanity- need, HAHA) to win this contest. That is where you, the reader come in- If she picks me as a finalist (oh puhlease, please, please…I am not below begging here) I will need all y’all to vote for me and get me to the finish line. And believe me, if she picks me- I am sooooo gonna let you know about it and will need everybody’s help!!
But on to the main reason for this post. via Kristen’s site…
“Here’s what I’m saying:
One on One PhotoFusion in Miami (with me, Kristen!)
I’ll even pay for your hotel (I’m not kidding) for 2 nights in Miami, Florida!
I’m covering the models, stylists, studio, music (nothing but the absolute BEST in the industry)
Bring yourself, and your camera, and a lot of energy. (oh, you also need to cover your travel to/in Miami and food)
And if you’re a wedding photographer, and not in to fashion – let’s shoot some killer Couture bridal shots! We shoot, eat, shoot some more. We can talk about whatever you want (business, marketing, blogging….) – then, we’ll edit together (I’ve never, EVER, released my editing techniques – but just for you, I’ll make an exception!).
Want to get published? I’ll submit it and we’ll SHARE credit (no guarantee someone will pick it up – but hey, that’s fashion!)
You wanna know what else? I have some amazing companies in the business that I use who have offered to help me sponsor this amazing opportunity!
Collages.net will be giving my contest winner a WHOLE YEAR of online proofing PLUS $100 print credit!
OneWed.com is giving away 3 months of PLATINUM advertising (valued at $315!)
MCP Actions is giving away 2 of my absolute favorite action sets and I’ll show you how to use them to perfection!
Shootsac has a special little prize for you, too!
Jennifer Frances Retouching will professionally edit our images for submission (and you get them for your website, blog, portfolio, etc – SHARED credit is a beautiful thing!)”
All together now…”HOLY Schnikees, fashionistas!”
This comes at a time when I have really thought about the direction of my work and decided to go for the passion! There is a reason Fashion rhymes with it- they need each other and I need them. Since I was a kid, my bestest and I (I’m talking since we were 5 people) would plan our future as fashion designer-her goal- and my photos of her designs. Yeah, my goals broadened over time- astronaut, olympic swimmer- but all of them involved stylin’ getups never before seen in a pool or space.
Of course, things aren’t always played out perfect and bumps popped up that I wouldn’t trade for the world. My younger brother was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a baby and a lot of my time was given over to being with him until he passed in 2008 at age 27. This was an amazing choice that shaped the way I look at the world. Even in his passing, he was the one I credit with kickin’ me in the butt and telling me to go for it- to let him be and chase after what I wanted.
So I have broken the rules a bit in that I was supposed to keep this short but if ya know me- you knew it was a given to go long. As far as posting an image of my work to go with this blog, I actually get to debut one of my favorites that had to be kept on the downlow for a surprise (lucky man!) gift featuring Grace Castro. My other shot (yeah there I go with the rule breakin’) features 2 gals I shot after an accidental meeting who are rockin’ the runway- Taaka Cash and Tiffany Ashley!

Chavonne and her Boys Rocked the Cold!
10 01 2010Just before WhitBlacPhoto called it quits for the holiday season, I got the chance to photograph a great friend and her amazing boys. Chavonne, Isaiah and Elijah were willing to tough out that first coldsnap and get a long overdue family portrait. I originally met this awesome fam when her youngest and my oldest become inseperable in school two years ago. I love when a kids’ friendship so easily transfers to the moms! We had more in common than even we could imagine. Now that the boys are at different schools, getting together has been tricky, so I was honored when she called me to do their portraits. We decided to take advantage of the area near my place and utilize both the natural environment and then throw in a little urban feel. (Thanks to Jax Shoot Club for showing me a place a stones throw from my house I should have known was there- haha). Everybody shot really well, including their two 4-legged family members. Isaiah did such a great job keeping them in check and still pulling off what is probably never that exciting for a teenage boy anyway. I thought he looked great! And so did the rest! Thanks again to such a beautiful family I am thrilled to have as clients and as friends!

Little Casey is Back!!
17 11 2009
And at three months is a big boy!! I love my job- watching these little guys grow…and grow. Had a fabulous day with Casey and his mom and dad. They are such super fun people and I am honored to be there to capture their little guy grow up. This guy was a trooper! He let us just about dress him in everything, including his topsecret Christmas look- that is under lock and key. Then I even got to catch him in his first big exploration of the backyard-ok from a blanket- but it was a huge deal. He loved it! Check out below for a glimpse at his day.

Cole Brown Take 1…
27 10 2009
Yes- part 1. As I said earlier…babies truly run the show! Newborn shoots always remind me of that important fact. And truly I don’t mind. I pretty much consider par for the course. I am not one of those photogs that limits my time with them. I know that each day is different from the last and things don’t run accordingly. I actually end up with some great stuff in all the in between moments. Cole is a great example of that! Look at how great this little guy is. And a scooter! This boy has places to go and things to do. Only just under 2 weeks and so alert and busy. Hence, my title of Part 1. I get to go back and visit this guy for some more shots of him once he is asleep. But in the meantime, check out this guy…

Pumpkin Patch v3.0
24 10 2009Yes as you can see I love these pumpkin patch portraits!! And so do my clients. I think its because they represent that change of season where all of us actually want to be outside- HAHAHA! I was honored to be invited to The DiGaetani 7th Annual Pumpkin Patch and Carving Party to help capture all the kids picking out the perfect canvas for some cool carving masterpieces. I couldn’t stay for the finished product
but going home gave me a headstart on editing these shots. Here’s a little preview…

Sulli’s Trip to the Pumpkin Patch
21 10 2009One of my newborn clients is now already at her three month mark!! It goes by so fast, right? To celebrate, I met her and momma at the Glynlea Grace United Methodist Pumpkin Patch. The little cutie was a super model except when it came time to show off her lil’ lamb costume. And as is tradition, I couldn’t resist snapping a pic of that moment too. Needless to say, her visit wore her out. By the end, Sulli was happy to take a snooze right in the thick of all those pumpkins! Can’t wait until her next go ’round!

Images for a Cure Pumpkin Event
12 10 2009Sunday October 11, 2009 was the first annual (that’s right-Kristen at IFAC has informed us that The Breast Cancer Research Foundation has okayed it for a yearly event!) Images for a Cure Day. The BIGGER news? We surpassed out goal of $5,000 in donations from our session fees and actually more than doubled it!
I am so honored that I was a part of this idea. I took my event out to the pumpkin patches where I love to be this time of year anyway. I also had the honor of meeting Heather from In Motion Video Productions, who not only interviewed me but got to follow me around capturing what is sure to be some crazy goofiness that is required to photograph kids! In Motion is providing proof of what we photographers are willing to do for our jobs and do for a fabulous cause. Look out for the result when it is posted on Images For a Cure’s website in the future.
It ended up being a beautiful day if not a bit warm but overall I am thrilled the rain held off. I had as my assistant for the day a young (but well seasoned to the industry) lady who also happens to be my cousin, Holly. She was sweet enough to volunteer her time holding reflectors and kids attention and evnetually stepped in front of the camera too!
My clients for the day were both new and returning ones. Some I remember shooting the first day of their lives, when I met them in the recovery room! Fabulous feeling to watch my subjects grow up! Another little guy was the very age (3) his daddy was when I met him! Thanks to all those who came out and helped with a very special cause! And thanks to Lakeshore United Methodist Youth Group for allowing me to use their pumpkin patch!! They were so kind to do what they did.
On a side note, the day reached a very fitting close when the last volunteer at the patch asked what the event was for. When I explained our goal, she thanked me and informed me she was a survivor. She was thrilled to see what we were doing! So everyone out there that participated or wants to next year…Our actions are not going by unnoticed! We really can help find a way to end this disease!!
And now, a little (ok- big) peek at some of the results to my first IFAC event…
